The Karol Patzer MOA Children's Charity honors the memory of Karol Patzer, a long-time MOA member who 26 years ago had an idea. Karol suggested a worthy children’s program in the town holding each year’s International Rally should be designated as that year’s Children’s Charity.
Karol's concept was enthusiastically supported, and many and varied are the programs that have benefitted from Karol’s vision. This year it is the Great Falls Children’s Receiving Home. There will be info in the BMW Owners News and the rally program, on our podcast and on this website.
Funds are raised in a variety of ways. Each year, a club challenge is issued by the Port Washington (Wisconsin) BMW Club inviting all other BMW MOA Chartered Clubs and individuals to match or exceed their opening donation of $100. Additionally, a 50/50 raffle held a couple of times each day of the International Rally raises money for the chosen charity and also puts some spending money in the winners’ pockets. Finally, donation containers can be found at spots scattered about the rally grounds, including the beer garden, the coffee area and the sewing booth.
This year’s Karol Patzer MOA Children’s Charity designee is the Great Falls Children’s Receiving Home. For over 50 years, the Great Falls Children’s Receiving Home has provided safe and temporary shelter to thousands of children who have been removed from their homes due to issues of child abuse, neglect, abandonment, parental drug use, domestic violence and more. The goal is to provide them with a safe environment, showing them that nurturing, compassion and love is the norm and not the exception. Donations are also accepted by mailing a check. To do this, please make your check payable to BMW MOA and place “Karol’s Charity” in the memo section. Send your check to BMW MOA HQ (2350 Hwy 101 S, Greer SC 29651, ATTN KAROL'S CHARITY).
While at the rally, keep an eye out for our cheerful roving red-aproned 50/50 volunteers to make your donations. There will also be donation jars at various locations throughout the rally grounds.
Help us help the kids and promote this worthwhile cause!
